In Negotin, the hometown of Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac (1856-1914), composer, musicologist and conductor, academician, professor and principal of the Serbian Music School in Belgrade, this year in September, a Festival will be held in honour of Mokranjac.
“The Days of Mokranjac”, thanks to its duration, is considered one of the oldest music festivals in Serbia, not only for choral music, but also for a general overview of the Serbian music scene, its development and reliance on the sources of musical tradition recorded by Stevan Mokranjac.
The festival, with the financial support of the Municipality of Negotin, the Ministry of Culture and sponsors, is organized by the “Stevan Mokranjac” Cultural Centre from September 9th to 15th, 2023. In terms of the programme, the upcoming 57th festival will be dedicated to the music composed by Mokranjac.
